Samsung Claims It Is India’s Number 1 Smartphone Company By a Distance

Samsung’s one of the most popular smartphone brands leading in India. The company claims that it has retained that position in last November. Samsung, which currently sells more than almost 20-24 pcs. phones in India offers a range of products including basic phones as well smartphones ranging from 4.5K to 65K. The company claims that it retains its top spot with 45% value market share and 40% volume market share in India.

Samsung’s India Spokesperson said, “Samsung is India’s number 1 smartphone selling company by a distance. As per GFK, which tracks sales to end consumers, in the last (November) quarter Samsung had a 45% value market share and 40% volume market share. Samsung is a full range player and leads the smartphone business across every segment of the India market in 2017.

More importantly, Samsung is a ‘Most Trusted’ brand in India. We own our undisputed leadership to the love and trust of millions of millions our consumers in India.”

Earlier today, it was reported that Xiaomi has taken over the top spot from Samsung as the No. 1 smartphone maker in India, toppling Samsung from the top spot. The report cited research by firms like Counterpoint and Canalys. According to Counterpoint, Xiaomi has upped its market share on the back of high shipments in India to 25% in the 4th quarter, and at the same time, Samsung has secured a second place at 23% market share.

However, Samsung’s latest claims make this a little confusing. What we understand is that while Counterpoint and Canalys are ranking Xiaomi as the number one player based on just shipment figures, GFK positioned Samsung as the leader by tracking end consumer sales.
